If you've never attended Holiday at Hadlock in Portland, you have to next year! Mark your calendar now! Usually the first Saturday in December, from about 10-2 or so, it's one of our favorite activities during the holiday season!
Everything is FREE - music, wagon rides, cookies and hot chocolate, crafts, a free baseball ornament, petting zoo, ETC. Sooooo much fun for the kids!
Parking is usually busy, so we go at about 9:45 to get there right at the start of the event and get good parking.
Our first stop is to see the animals - goats, alpacas, mini ponies usually.
If you have a baby carrier, I'd bring that instead of a stroller, as one part of the event at 11 a.m. is when Santa Claus flies in on a helicopter and people are in the stands. It's not very easily stroller accessible.
We always go straight to the wagon rides to see the horses. There is ALWAYS a long line for this, but when we go right at 10, see the animals and head over to the wagon ride by 10:10 or so, we're first in line for the first two wagon rides. It's perfect!
The wagon ride goes around the field, which the kids think is the best thing ever!
Then we go back inside for crafts, cookies, hot chocolate, etc. before being in the stands at 11 a.m. to see Santa arrive!
Our favorite part of the event, along with the wagon ride, is the SMORES station outside the stadium!
Seriously the best thing ever. The kids love this!
Inside there are craft stations, including decorating a baseball for a tree ornament. This room gets pretty busy, so be warned!
There is also usually a balloon making station.
As soon as Santa lands in the stadium, we rush to get back inside to get in line to see him. Last year when we did this, we were among the first 15 people in line and waited maybe 15 minutes to see him. This year, however, we were with about 30 others and it took about 45 minutes to see him. It's a free picture and the kids love seeing him, so we waited, but sometimes that can be a lot, so try to get in line earlier if you really want to make this part of the day.
It's a WONDERFUL event! I highly recommend you taking your littles next year.
